At the gym a few weeks ago Ben mentioned it had been agreed in terms of permission and access but someone has to come up with the funds for the lights. Might sound trival but he was talking a figure of $1000+ to put in something decent.

At the committee meeting before last Ben said that someone had agreed to fund the lighting but I don't recall any specifics beyond that. It wasn't mentioned at all at the most recent committee meeting so I can't see that that's changed. So last I heard, it's all paid for and sorted.

I was all a bit confusing. Parks Victoria have a grant to improve the bike trail lighting along the Mary Street - harbour section. There was a possibility this could be stretched to include the bouldering walls, but then it was going to be too expensive. After lobbying from the VCC and offers of some cost covering payment, and with strong support from the Parks Harbour office, they renegotiated with the electrical contractor to include the bouldering walls, costs met by PV.
It will be Area Lighting, exactly what and where we'll have to see. But a good result for the bouldering walls.

The bridge works have suffered some delays in December and now early January, and we are waiting to get a new program in place - hopefully the delays will be covered by contingency but as you can imagine, the more this weather continues the more likely the works will push out further.
As soon as we get clarity I will make sure that you are informed.

Unfortunately, just before Christmas we discovered asbestos particles in the area which is immediately west of the viaduct. The particles, small pieces of asbestos sheeting were in fill material which was placed on site well before our project started. We have undertaken air monitoring which confirms that there are no risks from air born particles. Whilst your climbing walls do not appear to be impacted we have had to stop work, zoned off the area and have commenced remediation.
Unfortunately, we expect that this will delay hand back of the area and reinstatement of the climbing walls until July.
I will keep you informed of progress and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

I just don't understand how that can mean an extra FOUR months worth of work... This is beyond ridiculous.

The old glue-up wall could be recreated? :-)

It can take weeks just to get approvals for expenditure in large organisations. Usually because there are several people needed to authorise, and all of them are busy, some of them are away on business, some are on holidays....

I've reverted to using the Richmond rail bridge.. close to Burnley and it seems to be toughening me up.
Perhaps, if we are lucky, Burnley will be back for 2012?

There is that glue up between the convent and dights falls that can be made heaps harder by elimination, u can even top rope the vertical section now cause someone cut a hole in the fence to make access easier....wonder who that could have been??

Sigh... Another shot, this time of the original section - the third panel. The cowpat in the foreground, the Bells Beach hold further along.
Can't believe I'm being nostalgic about a glue up! But spent much time down there hanging out, doing laps. Damn it was a good wall and time...
Sorry to all those that used to be down there and have to put up with my ghetto blaster on full. Used to set it up at the start of the second panel so I could hear it on the whole traverse.

I can still remember the sequence just looking at the second photo!
RH on the triangle hold in the foreground, cross LH to the next smaller edge, drop down to the cowpat match. RH twist up to the large round hold up high with the LH then next hold with the RH, match and drop back down to the next hold...
