And I reckon that Simon Yates must be sick to death of hearing about this. The rope-cutting incident happened when he was 21 and I'm sure it is all he has ever heard about since. The release of this movie is 20 years later is curious and would give someone the impression that the incidents it portrays happened yesterday.
While I'm sure it is a great movie (I haven't seen it) and Simon and Joe probably needed the $$$$ - and Joe has reached legend status again which should kick off another round of slide shows and lectures - enough, time to move on.

talking about $$$$, i also read somewhere that joe is still optioning the rights to a proper hollywood film version, rather then the said docu style.

Apart from the fact that the very first scene says "1985" . . . .

Imagine if he did though! Instead of the knife, Simon Yates takes a handfull of nitro and blows the crap out of the whole mountain!

If you read/saw Touching the Void you would think it was a one off accident. But then read "This Game of Ghosts" by the same author and you discover a life of near misses and f## ups. I would think twice about tying into a rope with Joe (unless I had a knife of course)

I recently read a book by Maria Coffey and in it she talks about how Joe has a reputation for being accident prone (with plenty of scars to prove it)....hmmmm.

On the topic I saw the Touching the Void DVD at JB for $9.98 the other day. Just thought i'd mention it in case anyone had the urge to pick it up cheap!
Cheers, dave
Ps. i do not work for JB and am in no way sponsored by them!
