"When in doubt run it out, When in fear place more gear" toilet wall Arapiles campground (reportedly written/said by Wolfgang Gullich)

and heres one for me when instructing abseiling

"Just lean back, spread your legs, and put your thumb up your bum" (for some reason this doesn't go down so well when dealing with young female students)

These are quite OK, Little Mac --- put 'em in the Quotes thread ...

Autumn Leaves

-- by Damian Conway

And then she was gone.

In an instant,
Wheeling through the emptiness alone
Where once our thoughts had winged together
Like echoes of laughter.
Silent as a tear down that granite face,
Fluttering like a torn dream,
Reaching out to me,
Reaching.
Soundlessly goodbye,
Soundlessly crumpling on the hard dead earth below.

Gone, as the silence roared about me,
Cooling, as I scrambed through that infinite descent,
Cold, as I reached down to brush the ants
From her lovely, shattered face,
Her lovely, empty eyes.

They buried her in white.
On a cold grey winter's morning.
As they bury each of us -
Alone.
As they'll bury me some day.
When I stop falling.
...........................................
Ear-ra-lee similar to that first short-story by another Damian ...

Damietta
9/04/2004

When I came to, all I could smell was her hair, it smelt beautiful. It was all over my face.

The day had started out well enough, she had picked me up before sunrise and we had made the familiar journey out to the cliffs. On the drive in we had mostly talked about climbing. I pointed out that the river next to the road was high for this time of year.

I had known Sarah only a short time, but I had seen her face in climbing magazines for many years. For someone young she had packed in a huge amount of climbing experience both here and overseas. She was the sort of girl who was highly sort after in the climbing fraternity, beautiful, but in an athletic, tomboyish sort of way.

But all that mattered now was trying to keep her alive. The taste of blood mixed in with tears as I tried desperately to revive her. Her grey eyes looked lifelessly skyward and reflected the setting sun; aside from my hopeless sobs it was eerily silent and peaceful.

None of this would have happened if I had been paying attention...

I'll second that. I actually suspect that if you guys keep up the personal chit chat and rubbish posts then there's a good chance you might see some of those posts deleted.

To clean up this thread a bit I have deleted some of the "rubbish and chit chat", perhaps sabu could do the same.
