'...GO! Excellent. I've landed it. Careful, it's slopey. Feet up, stay under the sloper. Clip. Chalk up, calm down. Hang on a minute; I'm in the roof. * Woo hoo!!!! * Big holds here we come! I finally start to relax and enjoy myself. The commentator is geeing up the crowd, and he is saying "Allez Jacqui! Allez!"

I use the slopey undercling on the underside of the sloper I am holding to gain some height. Left hand crosses up into the roof. Feet up. Feet not great; BODY TENSION. Waist up nice and high now. Reach through the lip, grab the massive doublehander jug. Take the feet off carefully. Dead hang. Match. Knees up to the chest. Feet onto the ceiling. Heels onto the hold my hands are on. * Woo hoo! * This is fun. The commentator sounds impressed I am not shaking anymore. I rest upside down here for a while. OK now for the cool bit. Heels off. Toes onto the roof. Wrap the left leg through; and FIGURE 4!! Force those legs down, grab the crimp, unravel the figure 4, and feet onto the jug. * Woo hoo!!!!!!!!! *...'

'...Australia's Greatest Adventurer Jon Muir on Tour

When you're a polar bear it doesn't matter at all if you fall through the ice but when Jon Muir plunged through the ice into the Arctic Ocean in 2002 he had just four minutes to get out or freeze to death. After the initial horror of realizing he had fallen into the ocean his survival instincts kicked in and he made several desperate attempts to spread his weight out and wriggle back onto the fragile ice pack. The technique he 'developed' in those first few seconds for extricating himself, he describes as the 'funky walrus maneuver', however it didn't have the desired effect. Fortunately his partner Eric threw him a rope and Jon was out and onto the ice. Jon is no novice when it comes to adventuring: he's one of very few people to have stood at the world's three poles - he climbed Everest in 1988, ice trekked to the South Pole in 1999 and to the North Pole in 2002. Join us when Jon relives his expeditions to the 3 POLES. Jon's extraordinary career, his amazing images and wonderful skill as a storyteller will have you captivated.
...Jon's 3 Poles tour at venues around Australia on the following dates:

oBrisbane: Wednesday 02 November at 7pm

o Sydney: Thursday 03 November

o Melbourne: Tuesday 08 November

o Adelaide: Wednesday 09 November

o Perth: Thursday 10 November

All shows begin at 7pm. For venue details and to book call WORLD EXPEDITIONS on 1300 720 000. SEATS ARE LIMITED and cost $25...

...proud to present Jon Muir's '3 POLES TOUR: NORTH, SOUTH AND EVEREST'.

Funky true short story ...

'...Grampians Bouldering
Well yesterday was my first trip up to Hollow Mountain Cave... Very cool spot! We tried to warm up on Easy Does It (V4) but me being a lanky 6-footer, found it quite difficult to keep my ass off the ground when I was climbing.... So I started working Wimmelfriedhof (V5) and sussed the start moves pretty quickly and got through to the crux a few times before finally sending in front of a rent-a-crowd of bushwalkers that had just rocked up. Got a cheer and a clap! lol Feeling VERY chuffed with myself after ticking my first V5, we headed up to Loopeys. I tried Fashion (V5) (I think, the right hand diagonal).. Missed the good hold, had a quick rest and then sent second go, in front of said rent-a-crowd again... lol ... Followed that up with a flash of Passion (V4) (the left hand diagonal) before running out of skin...

All in all, a very good day. Before this, my hardest send was Odyssey a V3 at Andersons.. So very very chuffed with myself!...'

Token troll? Yes, I remember now, you’re quoting me off my own web site. Jolly good.

Beta, eh? OK then, start at the obvious jug, take the right edge of the seam as a gaston, cross to the little edge, bump your foot up onto the smear out right, rock-over and quickly snatch to the pinch with your right, take the under-cling just above with your left and…

….sorry Hex, would hate to blow your onsight. You’ll just have to get yourself a copy of the Oz Climbing Calendar ‘06 where all is revealed…

Anyway, I’ve just received first copies of a certain new book and am crackin the champas!
