######## FLAME RETARDANT BUFFER#######
Disclaimer: Anyone who takes offence to anything I write- TOO BAD. Any references to people and or companies/business are not personal attacks, defamation or slander, merely references to make a point. I may or may not mention certain companies, but please do not feel however that I am telekinetically controlling your mind and forcing you to visit these places or buy their products against your will. You’re a big boy or girl. You can make up your own minds. But please, if sometime in the next 50 years, you do visit these companies, please tell them that you are there by your own accord and not because of me. I’d hate to think that I somehow I influenced your choice.
By reading this far you have accepted these terms.
Rightio, now that I’ve had a read through everyone having a stab at me, time for some replies.
Re: Mountain Designs DFO Essendon Now Open thread
Neil: When I posted this, I was just damn excited to have finished setting up the store. 70+ hours of unpacking clothes and pricing and hanging will make anyone crazy. Apologies. I’ve edited the post to bring it in line with the spam policy of this website. Everyone please read it so you get an idea of what this site requires.
Neil, if any part of this breaches the SPAM policy of this website, let me know.
Re: Mammut Climbing Shoes thread
jt: I misread your username as ti, who I know from Cliffhanger (I don’t work for cliffhanger and am not sponsored by Cliffhanger. I ONLY go there) She knows where I work (she works for the same company) hence me making a JOKE about hooking her up with her ‘hit’ because she has midget feet and we have midget sizes… I don’t know you.
Armyiain: cheers for sticking up for me in previous thread. By saying “ill hook u up” did not imply any “mates’ rates”. It was merely to state that we sell them. And probably the only place you will get them, as most of the other stores of the company I work for are sending all their unwanted stuff to us eg Mammut Shoes. All climbing shoes are overpriced. If you can get em cheap, great. Period.

Re: Haveachatwithhexy thread
Neil
“The DFO is in DIRECT competition to our sponsor Rock Hardware”
Not true. The DFO, being a direct factory outlet, stocks primarily apparel. The only technical equipment in competition with Rock Hardware is climbing shoes, and we only stock Boreal and Mammut, which Steve does not. Therefore we are not in direct competition because we are not selling people shoes that Steve sells. Unless you are trying to censor which shoes we should be wearing
“The plug was by a paid employee of the company”
That’s true. I am a paid employee. I’m a casual sales assistant who receives an hourly rate. I receive the same rate, and no more, if I sell things to people, or I do not sell a thing all day. Therefore, by me saying we have a new store open, does not affect the wage or benefits I receive. If I was sponsored by MD or received a commission on anything I sell, then that would constitute a plug for the company in my best interests. I can say with a lot of certainty that the company is not going to send me a great big novelty cheque saying “thanks for letting the millions (sarcasm) of climbers in Australia that an outlet store is open” A reasonable assumption yes?
“If we let this slide then every store could start posting its specials onto this forum. It has happened before... “
It still is. On a regular basis by people who should know better. Only difference is, they provide a link for THEIR own company, so chockstoners can see even more of their products or services and provide chockstoners with a direct means of purchasing their goods without leaving their desk. Which, to me, would constitute as “directly or in-directly financially benefiting from the post” or SPAM.
A few quick examples (and remember that these are just reference to make a point. Not a personal attack! I buy the calendar too…)
Only cruising the For Sale part of the forum revealed:
JCP: ”also dunno if ya all know but Simon's new World Climbing coffee table book is coming off the press in a few days and ITS GONNA BE f---EN SICK! do whatever ya can to get your mittens on a copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Nuff said. JCPs been published in the calendar.
JCP: “proofs for Simon Carter's (Onsight Photography- www.onsight.com.au') forthcoming World Climbing coffe-table publication” (snip) “This is a must have addition to any climbers rack”
Another product plug with link.
M9: “Fyi, Was checking prices in a well known retail outlet store today, and was pleasantly surprised to note that the high Aust. $ (possibly combined with other things), has led to a significant decrease in price of USA climbing gear, (I was checking specifically Black Diamond stuff), for anyone flush with $ at the moment.,,Have not seen it this cheap in Oz for years”
Timmy: What sort of gear were you checking out? And presumably at Paddy Pallin's....
M9:Climbing gear generally, aid type stuff specifically.
I noted that even 'old stock' Black Diamond stuff was reduced to about 2/3 of its former marked price. When I asked about it the Shop-man said 'Yeah, BD has reduced its prices lately, and Ozy $ is also good value, so customer is getting a double whammy effect'.
Would these posts count as advertising for Paddy Pallin and Black Diamond? Its recommending cheap gear to other climbers (which I did with my post for MD) at Paddy Pallin, which to me looks like it would be in direct competition with Steve and Rock Hardware which undermines his sponsorship of this site (which my post does not). Correct?
Brodie: (An employee or former employee of Hardrock)
“Hardrock is quitting the last of the holds from Collingwood. Also the mats from Nunawading which are great for woodies.
They will be on sale from Thursday 4th November. Cash only.
They will be in tubs in the shop area”
”I forgot to say that Hardrock is located at 16 Varman Crt, Nunawading Victoria. Silly Me!! Opening hours are 10am to 10pm Monday to Friday and Sat and Sun 10am to 7pm.
If you do not know melb, then the melways reference is 48e10. Hope this helps!”
Nuff said.

Or the following threads:
Importing Climbing Gear from the U.S.
Climb Tasmania - A Selected Best Guide
Intro / Intermediate Climbing in Nepal
Wall panels for sale
Any post/thread regarding Onsight Climbing Calendar
To constitute as SPAM, from what I understand, it would either have to directly or indirectly financially benefit the poster. Or undermine the sponsorship relationship Steve possesses with Chockstone. The threads I have highlighted above have no mention/warning/flaming for SPAM and either benefit the poster (or there mates) or undermine Steves relationship with Chockstone by providing ways for user to get gear cheaper. I’m sure I could find a lot more threads if I could be bothered looking.
I suggest that Chockstone drafts a written spam policy posted on this site for anyone looking to advertise to refer to. It also gives posters an idea of what they need to include or exclude. It also means that EVERYONE is bound to it, the boys club included.
I will be deleting every post that I’ve ever made referring to MD. Note that of the 217 posts I have made since February this year, only 1 has ever been referred to as SPAM. But apparently I’m an obsessedspammer.
Rant over….

Oh C'mon guys... I totally agree with what James brought up..
Neil when you first started moderating towards spam, perhaps you didn't realise you would have to delete ALL spamming posts for anyone to take it seriously, not just against every other person.
Maybe you should actually read through the posts JCP, might even improve your life.. who knows really..
(No need to get narky now)

Thing is most people don’t say – hey I work for company “X” and we’re having a huge sale. Majority of people who mention outdoor shops or gyms don’t actually work for them and just want to let other people know that there are sales on or gyms are being opened. In your case there was obviously a conflict of interest. A number of people who provided links to their companies' websites were told off, or were told to add them to the links section. As for Simon Carter’s calendar – he’s contributed a number of pics to this website and allows people to use his pics in their messages – for free. RH actually sell his posters so it’s not like his website’s competing with them. However I don’t agree with the way some people have been abusing you and posting sarcastic comments.
