Anyone out there >feel like marrying an englishman that wants out of here? Jon ( Alert and
>alarmed )
Jon,
Sorry to hear about all the mayhem.
But I feel then need to remind you that the First Fleet sailed a little over 200 years ago, and I'm afraid you missed the boat. Although I'm sure there must be some form of persecution you could be a refugee from, like skin heads, crap weather, horrible beer, a lousy cricket team, etc. I’m sure Amanda Vanstone will be very sympathetic.
Yours in sympathy

Skinheads have been replaced as the local bogeymen by a phenomenon known as "chavs" - see this site for details: http://www.chavscum.co.uk/
The weather is tolerable (particularly if you're from Victoria)
The beer? Don;t worry, they say thesame about the fizzy pop in Australia
As far as the cricket team goes, hope seems to spring eternal over here on that one (I did enjoy Sundays & Tuesdays results immensely btw.)

Yea I know, I've served my time, paid my debt etc but the experience was inadequate in terms of my rehabilitation, I really feel I need several more years before I'm ready to reintegrate into english society.
>Sorry to hear about all the mayhem.
As far as I'm aware nobodies blaming you Edwin..... Turns out it was lads from Leeds, that old north/south divide is getting worse.
> I’m sure Amanda Vanstone will be very sympathetic.
First known example of the words sympathetic and amanda vanstone appearing in the same sentence?
And your list of things wrong with this country is woefully inadequate, all i can really say is that the weather these past few weeks has been superb, but a shithole in the sun is still a shithole. And apparently nobody wants to talk cricket which is a shame 'cos this series is going to be the best in my lifetime, the year long long ago when we won, your side was crap, this time around we're well matched ( I accept I may be being optimistic, again.)
>Yours in sympathy
Joking aside it is a strange place to be, i was in london during the IRA campaign of the 80's and that was tense but they generally gave a warning. This lot are different. Unless you've been on a packed underground train you can't imagine the nightmare of last thursday. And since then the feeling that at any moment.....
I can't think of an upbeat way to follow that, where's the Hex ? I could use his brand of informed cynicism here. A relevant snatch of song perhaps.
yours using upper lip stiffener ( available from all good purveyors of stereotype and cliche )

Hmm, English John Howard and Ausie A.V. would be a diabolical combination.
It's interesting that Australia used to be litteraly the butt-plug end of the Earth. At some point we must've realised we'd given the prisoners the wrong Island, and you can't get into Aus for love nor money.

Just got back from swanning around Europe for the last 3 weeks. We were running a little late for our day jaunting around London on the tube. We were about to go down the tube when all these people rushed up at us at Paddington Station. Just before this while we were waiting for one of our number to change some money we heard lots of sirens going off and fire engines rushing up the street followed by cop cars and ambulences. We then tried to board a bus but got shoved out of the way by about a million other people trying to do the same. Lucky for us our plans got waylaid.
So for the rest of the day it was shanks pony. We saw London by foot along with all the office workers having to make their way to work by foot with their mobile phone cranked up to their ear spreading the latest gossip. Seems that everyone took it all in their stride. Of course the media built the story up to fever pitch in their minds. I reckon the best policy for these evil people is to give them no publicity. Don`t report it and you give them no power.
Wot up wit all the foreigners taking over London. We hardly heard a pommy speaking person whilst walking from the Imperial War Museum back to Paddington via Hyde Park. Seems all the bus drivers are Jamaican. There`s lots of Eastern Europeans and heaps of Arabic speakers clothed in their traditional Islamic dress. I reckon they`ll hafta change the official language of London to Arabic soon. We were scratching our heads whether we got off in the right countries airport but then when we saw Buck Palace and the Tower Bridge and Big Ben we knew we were in the right country. It seems that London is indeed a very multicultural sort of place now. Not what we expected at all.

Welcome back Phil. Betcha felt like you had just got up a new route after that experience!
It will be interesting to see how multiculturalism asserts itself on the climbing scene over the coming years. Climb names? Fashion/s in climbing clothing? Gear?

Actually the whole 3 weeks away was a trippy buzz. Since we were on one big adventure the bombings were simply just another experience in amongst lots of other new experiences. We all took it in our stride along with pretty much every Londoner. They were saying that they`ve seen this all before so what`s new.

So far half of the voters either don't want it full stop or want full disclosure of the sponsorship in every
reply.
Although he has gone quiet recently, he is actually up to 3001 posts now, which is more than 2nd and 3rd place getters combined!

Well I for one don't want to see the hexs' creation wither away, so i Ilifted this from ukc, i laughed my ass off. It's sort of in keeping with recent(ish) posts, anyone fancy outlining the Aussie position?
Prime Minister Chirac has officially raised the French terror alert
from "Run" to "Hide". There are only two higher alert levels in
France, which are "Surrender" and "Collaborate". The rise was
precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's white flag
factory - effectively crippling their military.
The Italians have increased their alert level from "shouting
excitedly" to "elaborate military posturing". Two more levels remain,
"ineffective combat operations" and "change sides".
The Germans have also increased their alert state from "disdainful
arrogance" to "full dress-uniform and marching songs". They have two
higher levels, "invade a neighbour" and "lose".
Seeing this reaction in continental Europe the Americans have gone
from "isolationism" to "find somewhere ripe for regime change". Their
remaining higher alert states are "take on the world" and "ask the
British for help".
Finally here in GB we've gone from "pretend nothing's happening" to
"make another cup of tea". Our higher levels are "chin-up and remain
cheerful" and "win"

Johnny has his caving gear for exploring the deepest recesses of dubya's arse, figuring out new ways to
kiss it, whilst Aussies as a nation are essentially all told to bend over and hold our ankles, unfortunately
Stand by, for the immanent replacement of the union jack in our flag with the stars & stripes resplendant
top left.
If we are a proud sovereign nation, why do we allow the presence of another nation's flag on ours?
Looks like we are still just someone elses bitch after all.
