Sorry Hex, I was a bit distracted/fascinated/horrified by what was just going on in another thread... But yeah, I reckon something like that could be a GREAT idea (whatever that idea actually is).

As a past contributor, I can say that Edward Frillypants is dead right. Why bother going to the effort of contributing when your submissions are going to be torn apart? I can well understand the need for an editor to edit a piece for length, spelling, or grammar. What I won’t accept is editing for other reasons. I’ve found a favourite tactic of the editors is to edit submitted pieces in such a way to make them more controversial. I’ve also submitted things that were selectively edited to make me look bad.
If you ever dare to query them, you’ll receive the following response:
>Our 'Contributors' Guidelines', accepted by you, make it clear that 'All items published in Rock are subject to editing for both length and style.' And the first point on one of the two forms you signed states: 'The editorial staff of Rock may edit my contribution/s at their absolute discretion.'
If anyone has submitted anything to Rock without having a single word edited, please raise your hand.
Due to the online revolution, print magazines will never again be a source of current news or information. Everything breaks on the web first. Magazines can only seek to play “catch up and compile”, presenting so-called current events from the period everyone has already moved past. There is no need for editors anymore, filtering what comes out of the horse’s mouth and sanitizing content for mass-consumption. I’ll put up with spelling errors and Hex’s compulsion to use long strings of full stops if it means I don’t have to listen to anything coming out of the Baxter-filter.
Online all the way.

Seems to me we are all part of a neo-climbing-revolution , where camp-fire,magazine,cyber-space,etc,etc,etc are all trying to compete/survive , but at the same time blend&fuse to extract the best from each-other...

Don't underestimate the continued and ever-present power of print, some here are too eager to abandon the tangible world and jump into the non-stop-disco-cyber(snooze)-rave.
Don't forget, We all still run to the letterbox like eager, giddy schoolchildren, after sitting there for a few months (counting April...May...June...should be soon), in anticipation of unwrapping the latest issue of Rock mag, and devouring the pearls of goodness from the hamper within. It seems all too easy to discard the well worn physical world for the Mc-media-quick-compiler (would you like fries with that) that Hex would see us all inhabiting.
How can you replace the dog-eared, mangled pile of Rock mags, freshly recovered from the dunny basket, with a pile of CD-roms and floppies(in the case of Hex)
By comparison, The image of Hex, in his schooldress, pigtails and knee-high socks skipping into the study to see if there have been any replies to his posts while 'daddy' is outside is a disturbing one, yet perhaps surprisingly close to the truth

Not the people I have discussed the quality of Rock magazine with. Like me, most now if bothered spend a couple of minutes in the newsagents with each new issue- flipping through Rock and then leaving. Knowing that the magazine has once again failed to deliver the goods...

I reckon , if ya look at Rock over the span of one year (ie. 4 issues ) , the content is very good ; plus it's a very good hard-copy , record ,reference , etc, etc, etc
What maybe an improvement with the MEDIUM , would be to produce it with a more tactile , matt ,textured paper , to give it that rustic, hands on , extension-to-the-crag feel --- rather than the ever-so-slightly glossy-alienating ;for-the-coffee-table-experiece-only, vibe that it may have at the moment ...
