I was in the girl-guides for a short while in primary school in Sth America (Chile) - those camping and trekking trips to the Andes were amazing, tough kids.

From what >i've heard, all they did was very little climbing, got wet a lot, camped, >tied knots and lit farts on fire. yeah and building big structures to make uber-camps with big kitchens and massive tent areas. much more of a military background than your general bushwhacking/rockclimbing approach where your more focused on spending the least effort with it (and doing more). hence all the knots to make big rigging structures rather than ease-of-use. none of this pre-fab easy to use tents, its all DIY, build a city out of twigs, logs, sisal rope & canvas :)
