'...Biskit Passes On
By Rebecca Stokes

A week ago, Biskit, the beloved climbing dog went missing in Gold Hill, Colorado and never returned. Her owner Tom Kelly of Ouray, Colorado was camping out; when she apparently jumped out of the truck and ran off into the forest. Kelly spent the next week combing the forest for Biskit, only to have a member of the search party find a few remains and her collar; she was the victim of a mountain lion.
Biskit was known for her starring roles in Front Range Freaks and Return to Sender. In these films she scaled difficult walls with precision and demonstrated the leaping ability that only the rat terrier can possess. She was a bold and brave dog who inspired many in the climbing community, often because we wondered if we could climb as hard or as fast as she could...'

Data loss - big ezboard problems

Quote:On Tuesday May 31 ezboard's systems were the victim of a very precise and malicious internet attack. This attack resulted in the loss of a significant amount of current and historical board postings and interrupted services across all systems.

For more information see this:

I can only hope that all our data is restored. We've lost heaps of stuff.

All his posts are still there on the UKC forums but they don't allow you to delete them after a while anyway.

This forum is backed up - so any data loss from hackers can be restored. There is actually copies of Kent/Frillypants posts still stored in backup!

Both gentlemen contributed many very good posts, and I for one am sad to see them go.
My hope is that Ed will continue to lurk and contribute under another name, a bit like Kent did/does?

'...Most posters to chockstone are not making their livelihood out of climbing, and don't take climbing or posting all that seriously.
The extreme position of setting all posts in stone is a bit tough for the more casual poster. Being able to delete posts is a big advantage when you see all the garbage you wrote after half a dozen beers at the Blackheath pub last night.
I feel a big question the moderators have to ask themselves is "What audience is chockstone really aiming at?"
If you're aiming at a "serious" website , then set all posts in stone, and you probably should also get rid of Hex and all his clones. But if it's still a bit of fun for the rest of us, then at least give us the option of correcting our sometimes foolish mistakes.
Another option would be to have parts of the chat site open to corrections, and parts set in stone.
I don't agree with setting posts in stone. I think we have to remember this is just a climbing website, we're not talking about world health here!...'

C'mon you intellectual-midgets ... get real !! --- we are living in a global culture/village/blah/etc ... the ' honour ' thing is actually very strong in Australian-youth-culture, tho it tends to be a volitile mix of self,family,peer-group honour , not just ' family ' honour as youz seem to be narrowly-ignorantly convincing yourselfz, vsv 'other cultures' ... the ' hidden' , horrendous stats on youth sewerside in both rural&urban Aus' point to etc, etc, etc ... why shake your head in sadness, grass-hopper ? ... itz simple : '...Palestinian kids blowing themselves to pieces...', look forward to death the same way Aussies look forward to the week-end ...

C'mon Hex! No-one is suggesting there is no 'honour' thing in Oz culture....just that the equivalent in other cultures in basically unfathomable to us. Sure...we live in a global village, but don't make the mistake of thinking we are all thus the same and think the same. That's the warped parochial basis of US foreign policy since WW2! Don't get me started on that one!!!!

Sure there are BIG problems in Oz. We could have a forum discussion on why one of the guys who introduced me to climbing killed himself or why my sister has had 3 attempts at doing the same. My point is I'm very aware of what the problems are here and aware of much of the pain and suffering associated with it. But global village or not, I cannot for the life of me see what pushes any family to pressure their kid to almost certain death on a mountain, or throws acid in the face of their daughter/sister because she looked at some guy! Totally unfathomable.

Oh well. Back to work now.

Love your column Hex.

Phew Hexy, ...honour and its endless number of meanings and cultural contexts - not a black'n'white issue, but zillions of shades of grey.
BTW, how'd ya know I'm short? ;-p
