' Historic Bolts - chop or not '
Best all-round solution would be to digi-photo them, ala Philbyz classic ' Tibro Tat ' photo , so the heritage can be added to this cyber-museum, prefferably with route details included :

Then carefully, if possible, remove the bolts/pinz/gizzmoz & give them to someone 'responsible' to look-after ...

Another glimpse into the future of climbing ...
'...Climbers from all over Europe tested the limits of their power at the No Foot Contest VI in Strasbourg, France. Held annually at the Rock en Stock climbing gym, this brutal event features a series of contests testing crimp, campusing, pull-up (one- and two-arm), and lock-off strength. The final round was a no-feet-allowed onsight lead on the gym´s impressively overhanging 60-foot cave...'

In a 1997 interview, he spoke passionately about winning the rat-race in 5 years ( 2002...), and then getting right into climbing again --- including a soul-saving-ascent of The Ring Route(31)...
...the interview process might be just the thing to re-focus him ... Please Mikey Please !!! ... before he chops off his fingers in a fruit-blenda or sumfin' ...

I suggested Kim to Mike a while ago but I had no idea where he'd got to! Selling ice-cream??!!

Glad to hear he finally got up the Ring Route, I was taking pics the day he fell off the last move in early '85, oh the language!!! Must scan those pics & try and improve them a bit (they're really too dark as they are) then get them off to Mike I think.

He climbs at my local gym occasionally. He still looks fit and well, but his climbing is certainly at a more moderate level these days. I was just impressed he is still climbing and enjoying it.

Umm, no. I can remember a climbing mag called Screamer and one of their most pouplar guide inserts (mine is pretty well worn) was where to find the best ice creams in Melbourne. It came out when Kim was king, maybe it is all the fault of Dulux/Angel Black/Hero Fukutu/ ... ?

25 APR 2005 :
'...A multinational team has free-climbed the El Capitan-sized wall to the left of Angel Falls in Venezuela, using no bolts for protection. Britons John and Anne Arran, Miles Gibson, and Ben Heason, along with Alex Klenov from Russia and Venezuelans Ivan Calderon and Alfredo Rangel, climbed the 31-pitch route over 19 days, with 14 nights on the wall. Fully half the pitches were 5.12 or harder, and nine were rated E7 (dangerous 5.12 or better-protected 5.13-). The team onsighted most pitches and redpointed the remainder with preplaced traditional protection.
The Angel Falls wall has four other routes, including a shorter free line spearheaded by the late José Luis Pereyra in 1996, but only a Spanish aid route had ascended the steepest and biggest wall, just to the left of the world’s highest waterfall; the free route follows part of this 1985 climb...'
Tres Impressive !!

I am a glasshopper of faith (knew s/he would be back).
Angel Falls in Venezuela. Must look up an epic I once read where some aid climbers got trapped behind the falls curtain in a flood, and post the details here ...
