Bertie isn't well, is in hospital. Heather, worried beyond belief after... FIFTY years together this year.
For those of us who enjoyed many an evening at The Troopers Arms I hate to advise that Bertie's in poor health ,,, seriously poor health, and Heather is obviously in turmoil.
Please, please, please, may I beg a favour and ask for well wishes for them both. Total confidence is assured but they don't do email so if anyone would like a conduit then please come via me. In 100% confidence, and a hand-written letter or cardI I'll on-send. A Word doc that I can print off (26+ font) and take in on my daily visits would cheer Bertie & Heady up no end but please, be quick.
Many thanks,
Come on Bertie!!!! Love Heady..
Andy P.

Andy,
You wrote very fondly of them in your book and you are obviously very close to them.
They are clearly good people and I wish Bert and Heather all our prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

Thanks Mr Grib ,,, and Hero too (PM on way).
Visited again today and shall again 1st thing tomorrow morning.
I suggested to the daft old b*gger to get a wriggle on and either get better or pop his Dutch clogs as tied up in bl**dy Melbourne traffic an hour each way ... For those who don't know - or haven't read my book, the last time Albertus was in a chopper he was the pilot during the Six Day War in ,,, what,1967?
Anyway, switching over to start a new thread now but ta on Bert's behalf to Grib & Hero for the well wishes.
T'ra.

Hi Andy,
Sorry to hear that Bert is not in good health. I never spent the time at the Troopers Arms that you did (where it was your second home) but I did appreciate the energy and effort that both Bert and Heather put into creating such a unique place from scratch. It was interesting to read more about their background in your book. Sounds like they should be writing a book about their lives!
Anyway, send them my regards and I hope Bert can pull off another miraculous escape.

Cheers Simey,
Afraid Bertie passed away last night at St Vincents Hospital.
He rallied a little for a day or so but then was gone.
Kind thoughts from you though, cheers.

Just saw this post, thanks Andy. Remember you, always at the bar.
Bert, what a great bloke, what a character. Sorry you have left us mate.
So many amazing wild and memorable nights at your bar. From watching the movie Stone(d) at your "outdoor cinema" to over consuming beer and food by your magic fire, we were always guaranteed a great night in your and Heather's company.
RIP Bert, from the four C's. Steve, Rob, Ross and Brian.
Best wishes Heather, thanks for everything.

Yeah, so many great times taken for granted, then when they were no more just kinda moved on and forgot about them, until reading a certain book anyway...and now, a little reminder of what was and what will never be.
Thanks for the memories Bert, and sincere best wishes directed Heathers way.

Thanks to all above for the very kind words of fond memories. I'll show Heady at some point in time no doubt...
Yeah, Bertie was a character alright and believe me it was a privelige to be his and Heathers' close friend.
Thoughts now obviously for Heady - and Bert's brother Barry & wife Judy out near Wartook.
Its all funeral arrangements etc now - cremation. We always agreed we'd have him stuffed and placed in the corner of their precious Troopers Arms - complete with twinkling eye, scotch, and an Amanda cigar in hand ... happy memories.
In celebration to dear Albertus, I raise my glass and bow my head in prayer.
Cheers,
Andy P.

All sorted.
Pages & pages of legal docs to sign as designated funeral arranger. Everything from quotes to completion.
Bertie's body is to be cremated on Friday 3rd March at 9.30AM. No service, no ceremony, no one present - as per family wishes.
I have my deceased dearest friend's personal effects in a holdall I collected from the hospital this morning here in my house and shall have his ashes available next week.
If I make it up to the Nati Goatfest at Easter I might just nip out to the Gramps and sprinkle them upon the ground of his now-not-there masterpiece The Troopers Arms.
Thanks for the kind words on behalf of 'Basil' and to 'Sybil' moving forward.
Shall now play a poignant song by Anthony and the Johnsons called "I Hope There's Someone" (who'll be there for me when I die).
Cheers,
AP.
