Ok ...well while ur so obviosly preoccupied with this , I will share my own theory ...

Never mind the steaks or mung beans ... I reakon where Kim fark dup was logistically ...

you see its a half hour walk to SYL from the pines and then a half hour return ...and thats another hour on top of that if ur returning for lunch etc

So Kim burnt up quite va lot of phisical / psychic energy just getting to and from SYL

So had he set up a comfy lil camp at SYL , he woulda stepped outa his tent ,, yelled " VIOLA - LETS DO IT " ... roused his belayer from the other tent and blitzed it in the fresh cool morning air ... while he had a full physical/psychic tank

yaaaaaawwwwn ....Im exausted just thinkin about it ...

Yeah well thats the tricky bit ...like Stalin said : " one death is a tradgedy , a million deaths is a statistic " ...and davej reakons SYL is just an obscure piece of rock in a ' poxy gully ' ...

Well to KC , that one in a million microcosm was the centre of his universe for a long time ...high expectations but low reality .....

Im hoping that the KC book will exorcise the whole hole that is SYL to Kim...

BUT ANYWAY ... it was a double wammy , cos even if he DID get up SYL , Wolfy created an unbreachable road block for Kim , with Punks ...

I feel better now ... time for a steak ...

A Glenn Tempest or Greg Child book could be great, but I think a Kim book is unlikely as he's not into climbing now, and possibly wasn't for a while before he quit. Also, Glenn and Greg's 'careers' ( I hesitate to use the word for climbers) span a few decades and styles.
But if Kim did put pen to paper or finger to keyboard he could destroy much of the mythology us also-rans perpetuated after he wandered off.

Kim 'wandered off ' to all places , to go climbing with Martin Schell in Switzaland , a massive irony since Martin bolted the route that woulda stopped Kim if SYL hadnt of

Kim has a DUTY to tell his story !!!!

Kim wandered off cos he was disillusioned to the point of perpetual angst

Like Simey and Tempest say in the Araps guide , SYL was extremely demoralising for KIm,

Dear Kim ,

I know that since circa 2000 u have been busy with mountain bikes and bread etc

However , if u cant bring yourself to do an auto can u PLEASE authorize Glenn and Greg (and MIke ) to do a biography ... of the years 1975 to 1985 , with a prelude from Sydney gramma to the Totem Pole in 1974

Those 10 years are PROFOUNDLY IMPORTANT TO AUS CLIMBING and as Claw has inferred , a lot of your significance is being lost to halfbaked ' mythology '

Please give greg and glen lotsa juicy pix and yarns ,,, especially any myths that need busting so that a GREAT STORY can be told

ITS NOT WHO U R KIM ...ITS WHAT U REPRESENT !!!!

The personification of so much that motivates joe average to go climbing
