Hi Mods / Site owners,
Those of us who upload photo's to Chocky for TR's and the like are greeted with the message:
"Please do NOT upload files larger than about 40kb or wider than 300 pixels"
I regularly get away with between 40 - 50kb so havn't quite cracked the exact validation the DB uses... BUT: I assume this was based on the early naughties when the site was born, and as the costs associated with storage, hell, moreover the social expectations about file sizes has changed significantly since then, could we pretty please entertain upping this a bit?
Even 80kb would be sweet!

It is up to Site Author (and possibly also Site Sponsorship issues), however for general informations sake, please be aware that I regularly resize pictures (when I see the need), to smaller format after they have been posted.
This is related as much to end-user-freindly screen size formatting, as to archival storage space.
Site Author regularly checks in, so I am sure he will see this thread in due course, and may clarify further.

Btw, if anyone is looking for a free image upload site with minimal hassle, I would highly recommend Imgur.com

I just host them elsewhere, offloading the bandwidth costs to a bigger provider. Flickr will generate the code for you to embed images (share on web) which makes it trivial.

Thanks for the tip, I should probably do this.

I use picasaweb for hosting all my images. If you already have a google account (gmail address), then you can use that. You can mark the galleries private so that only people with a link containing a key can find them, I can also link the images through to my blog so I don't have to upload them to 2 different locations.

Picasaweb seem a little cleaner than flickr for this kind of thing. Find the pic you want in an album, click 'link to this image', pick a size and copy and paste the embed code:
Might move all my flickr stuff over sometime...

You can also download the Picasa client which helps manage your local photos and upload them to Picasaweb, it isnt too bad either.
I use Linux and an app called 'digiKam' which has an export to picasa option for resizing and uploading photos in batches.

Good news! Mike has generously upped the maximum file size considerably for photos uploaded directly to Chockstone forums.
The new max allowable size is - 65kb and 700 pixels wide

This is good news.
Thanks Mike.
~> Just to tidy up though, the adding pictures to a message page now needs updating to reflect the new limits, as it still says 40 kb and 300 pixels...

The actual Upload page http://www.chockstone.org/upload/files-upload.asp has been updated with the new limits.

Well picked up on kieranl.
I have now edited my previous post to reflect the correct title in it's link, in case people come into uploading pics from that direction.
