As background, I administered a site running phpbb for a number of years (which is why I brought it up as an example - I know how much easier life could be). Can't really recall having to delete much spam.

Yeah, I did wonder how long it would be before that chestnut came up. Can't we have a critical discussion without being asked to love it or leave? I never said I find this site a chore, but that doesn't mean that everything that it does is perfect and beyond reproach.
