Ah, it's possible we are talking about two different things. In your profile is kept the date and time you last logged in. Every post added since that date, including those added while you are logged in and reading messages, is considered new, and will be counted as such. If you then leave your computer for over an hour, it will log you out. When you return (be it later that day, or later that week), posts that have be added since you last logged in (including those added while you were previously logged in), will again be counted and shown in green. Only when you return the next day, will the count be reset based on your log on time the previous day, but again, the count will still include those messages added during the hour(s) you were logged on.

This is what we call, in programming cirlces "a feature" ;-). More specifically it's a limitation, made so, because the forum can not record the time you left. (Surfed somewhere else, closed your browser, etc). The only date it has to work with is the date you arrived and logged on. All it is doing is comparing this date/time with the date/time posts were added, and counting them as new should the later be greater than the former.

One way to manually "reset" the new posts counter, is to deliberatly hit the "log off" button, and then immediately log back in again. This action effectively says "mark all posts as read", since you are now freshly logged in, the new posts count is zero - at least until someone posts once more.

I've just added a "Mark All As Read" button. And some help on it.

The other thing to beware of is that pressing "BACK" on your browser will always give you the cached copy of any page. You have to move around using the forum's controls to see refreshed pages.
