Thieves are thieves, they'll always be around, if you'd grown up in a slum where you can't even leave your shoes on the front veranda you'd probably know better... hide it really well next time (i know someone who can hide their gear so well it takes a GPS unit for him to find it again) or take it home.

Hopefully, someone is just minding it for you, but maybe you'll be a little more cautious in the future.

Regardless of the fact if it's a national park or not, it's not a good practice to go leaving your shit lying around the top of popular routes for any Joe Bloggs (or a land manager) to stumble upon.
