Orientation of the release hole makes it heaps easier to release in self break mode. Haven't had any troubles with over-heating or ropes sticking. However I did try the self break mode with an old rope that was so flogged out it stretched way too much which reduced the rope diameter enough to have the two strands rollover each other. But has been fine on newer ropes even down to 9mm doubles.
