Hi NZclimber. Gooud cheoice to get into trad. Trad racks can tend to be a personal preferance, sometimes just based on what works best for that individuel. Takeing into account their abilities and the type of terrain being encountered. eg: climbing 80m of fist crack would require a nice set of mid range cams includeing double and even tripple of some sizes and a few hexes. Where as thin face climbing might require small nuts and R.Ps. So overtime your rack may become etensive but you don't allways take every bit of gear up a route.Fundementaly speaking though, as wallwombat said, a nice set of Nuts #1 - #10, a couple mid range SLCD and couple smaller SLCD with a few "hexes" will get you started. Another piece of gear realy suited to the 'Raps' are trie cams. Not to be confused with 3 footed SLCDs, these are the little babies that are 1 piece of alloy on sling that can be placed active (camming) or passive like a nut. Theyre bomber for some of the pockets you get in the Djurite. Now a big difference from sport draws are the trad runners that often need to be long. So a few 600mm slings and a few 1200mm slings in addition to your draws will be required. But as you start to mix with the local climbers and see and experience trad, you'll see what they're useing where and you get some insight. However I would highly recommend doing a course run by a qualified quide to set an educated foundation for your trad knowledge. Let the real adventure begin.
