probably a lot more use to go with 2 x 8.5's. Great for trad and alpine and more versatile. If one is damaged or if your usual single rope needs replacing etc. Beal cobra is meant to be good (8.6) as far as simul climbing goes, so far as you know its limits (and it sounds as though you do) it makes a huge difference to long routes (speed is of the essence etc)
