I have a 60m 7mm static line that I have used either for a 30m rappel or tied to a 60m climbing rope for a 60m rappel. Visually a bit scary when you do it the first time but works well and the weight advantages are obvious. I have heard of people going down to 5mm. Suggest you look at all the static lines available and go for what looks like the most abrasion resistant type you can get. 7mm is a good compromise all around (weight, thickness etc).
