Cutting resistance in ropes- no real standards |

Would it really matter what sort of test you used? I would have thought that (in general) increased resistance to cutting in one would also mean increased in another aspect (except for rock fall which is really a different issue). You just need a standard (any standard) and then to test all ropes so you can compare them.
This won't tell you absolutely whether your rope will be cut by a particular edge, but will tell you which ones are stronger (in the same way the current UIAA fall count won't tell you if it will fail on a particular fall)
I'd be interested to know how much safer twin ropes are when loaded over edges compared to a thicker single.
