Ok HOTGEMINI I was being too general. The fuzz on our slings (go on look at it) is mostly cut fibres. So if folks think I meant 'cut right through' then my bad. It will cut. Question is how much do you want to maximise/minimise it. Would you use 10mm dyneema girthed to your belay loop on a regular basis? What about 8,7,6...? That's the point I was making. % reduction in strength is a combination of tension failure and direct cutting. The smaller the diam of the material and the shorter the radius blah blah. Which one is safe/dangerous? it's a judgement isn't it? I think manufacturers will have to be far more specific about material use and we have to re think girth hitching material. Crap response but got to work.
