I think the reference to "cow's tail" has gotten the troops excited. In my experience most people use a sling at the top of a sport route while threading the anchors and either a sling or the climbing rope clove hitched to the anchor (or powerpoint) on multipitch climbs. Cow's tails are generally used for industrial situations.
While using a cow's tail for climbing would, in my opinion, be completely fine, it is a little more bulky than a sling for no real benefit, but no real loss other than the bulk.
Having bought your sling, I say you're good to go.
