Yeah well my 2 cents worth is that decent 2-way radios are an excellent addition to your adventure climbing kit. They are nice to have on big walk-ins, as everyone can walk at their own pace and know how far behind or in front they are which can be nice if you're dog tired.

They were also really nice to have on the Warrumbungles ice climbing ascent of Bluff Mountain via Flight of the Phoenix - just nice to know that someone is with you and will meet you on the top with some warm clothes, a bit of water, and guide you down off a cliff you've never been to the top of, let alone trying to get off in the cold dark, with lightning storms brewing all around you.

It does not however make getting hit un-relentlessly by massive a hail storm any more comfortable.

And I agree with Neil - they can be great if you've got multiple cars and want to stay in touch - like "Watch out for that pack of roo's ahead!"

A friend of mine just bought a pair in Indonesia for $110.00 which were good Motorolla 2 watt ones (very similar to the model Steve mentions at the top of the thread).
