I am toying with the idea of trying out a synthetic sleeping bag for alpine use. I need some simple
questions answered to help with this.
If you would like to help, which could turn into a useful survey for others too.
What I want to know is:
1.Who out there uses a synthetic bag for alpine use?
2. If so, what brand/type?
3. What temperature range/environment do you use it for? Eg. NZ summer, NZ winter, other high
altitude climates etc?
3. What is the weight & packable size, do you find this an issue?
4. What do you think is an acceptable weight for a s'bag, when mount'eering, if bivy's are likely or
unlikely?
5. What system do you use for sleeping? Do you sleep with insulation layers on, allowing you to use a
lighter, warmer synthetic? With a bivy? Liners?
6. Do you find that you actually take advantage of the benefits of a synthetic, thanked god that you
had a synthetic on a particular occasion, or are you simply used to using them?
If you don't use a synthetic, please feel free to substitute your 'down' answers in.
You see, the arguments for synthetic are comprehensive, and the opinions many...so I just want to
know what people are ACTUALLY using. Compiling this info may help many.
