A friend of mine gave me this tip the other day, I tried it, and the shoes smell quite respectable now. Grab a bunch of eucalyptus leaves, scrunch them up into a ball to release the volatile oils, and place that inside your shoes when stored.....I must say I was skeptical at first, 'cos my shoes have been without any washing for years (in fact never)....but I was quite pleasantly surprised! it does seem to work, at least to control the bad smell.
