two biners on a top rope set up increases the bend radius which is meant to reduce the friction making it easier to pull the rope through. probably reduces heat and wear etc too.
i don't think you get "micro cracks" from dropping stuff. You will get cracks from cyclic (fatigue) loading at reasonably low loads but the number of cycles needed is very large, usually hundreds of thousands or millions of cycles depending on the loads involved.
At some point someone put the dropping issue and the fatigue issue together to get a fictitious scenario that became very handy for marketing purposes. |
