The one thing that puts me off the vector is something the review in wilderness mag said - "The alarm is extremely quiet, verging on the rediculous. It never woke our tester and the altitude alarm also went unheard, even though the tester was listening out for it."

Anyone else had this problem with the vector or any other suuntos? I guess it's possible that the test model they recieved had a u/s beeper.

I'm not too concerned about getting a watch that doesn't have calibrateable altitude. Likewise, 5m readings are fine, I'm not going to aim for a ridge with a 1m reading watch then think 'oh bugger I must be in the wrong spot' if it's 3m out!

Has anyone heard of or have experience with Highgear watches? They seem to go for a quite reasonable price. Not sure where they're made - on that not where are suunto's made? In Finland?

I guess the other concern is warranty - do suuntos have a lifetime warranty? Again - any experience with Highgears?
