Top loading might be less likely to knot but front loaders will not jag the rope in or under the agitator or do damage to the rope. Usually because they don't have an agitator. My front loader won't clean my clothes too well but my ropes look great. I use a proper rope wash and some fabric softener, I don't have ropes like wire. That all said there is nothing like using a proper rope brush and wash your rope in the shower. Ralph
