It would be great to look at compacts as well as SLRs. Most climbers don't take SLRs climbing. They want something small but with the ability to take good quality photos.
For a compact digital camera some criteria I would look at include:
-size
-optical viewfinder
-able to switch off LCD screen
-good battery life
-quality lens
-RAW iamges would be great
