This problem reduced my heels to pulp on more than on occasion, both in leathers and plastics. I ended up getting an old karrimat and cutting a 3x3 cm square out of it then cutting a 1x1 cm square in the middle of that. I taped it onto the back of my heel and didn't have any problems. It makes a nice snug fit. Last trip was in plastics and i only had to change them twice in 2 weeks (they get a little flattened after a lot of walking, probably cos of the crappy foam in the mat) It's the budget option.
