I had a major problem with 5.10 about 6 or 7 years ago. It wasn't just the product failure, it was also the service (or lack of it) and the attitude at the time.

The shoe soles delaminated after only wearing them once or twice. They were returned for warranty repair (should have been replaced) well before Christmas. Two months later heading into February the shoes were up in Sydney and still not repaired. I had a climbing trip to Tassie within a week and no bloody shoes!

To cut a long story short I was given the opportunity to vent my displeasure at the 5.10 rep. in Sydney. My dummy spit had no effect for 5.10 but upon hearing exactly how unhappy I was, the store sales assistant said 'go and select any pair of shoes you like off the stand'. I went straight to the La Sportiva's.

I swore black and blue I would never buy 5.10 again and do everything possible to discredit the brand name. This was until I saw Steve at RockHardware. He did an exceptional price on a pair of Zlippers to get me onboard and assured me if I had any problems they would be fixed promptly.

The shoes were great, until I lost one of them. I left them at a crag and a fox or something must have taken off with one of them. I don't think I can blame 5.10 for that. I bought 5.10 shoes as a replacement (anastazi velcro I think) and these are wearing well and excellent to climb in.

I wouldn't say I'm a 5.10 convert as I still think the Sportivas Mistrals were the best shoe I've had. But I would say at least consider 5.10. Also it was a long time ago I had the problem with 5.10 and I think they've lifted their game since then. I would be interested to hear if anyone has had a recent 5.10 bad experience.
