James, the DRY cover in Beal rope is an acronym for Durable Resistant Yarn cover... it water repellant to some extent, but I think (misleadingly) the main point is durability. The more WATER resistant Beal ropes are "Golden Dry", which has some additional treatment. The Stinger ropes can have either covering.
