I'm guessing the reason you can't use a rack etc, is because they want the break on the loaded line? Otherwise I would just go with a rack, the smoothest device by far, just requires a 2nd line and a belayer.

Using the SRT Device the way mentioned above, won't auto lock, you are effectively just using it as a break handle.
The otherway that I have used on a zipline for breaking, is by threading the zip line (load line) through a whales tail through the end hole, and clipping a sling to the second hole attached to the person, this has some auto breaking, and if you want to stop, or break faster, you just pull the end of the device towards you.
