It seems the unlocking is by rope leverage on the exit part of the device which undoes the lock. Kinda like a stitcht plate with a friction drum beneath it ... I recall that moving the unstrung stitcht plate used to help unlock it as well... Looks pretty cool to me would be great for simul- climbing with both people able to belay at any time.
