The improvement in climbing shoes is historically a major cause of higher standards, I remember the astonishment i felt while experimenting with my first pair of Fires (first boots with sticky rubber).They definatley helped me improve. Unfortunately i can't make the same claim for lycra which i wore for years without justification.
