Hi guys,
My name is Ryshane, I am an advanced life support paramedic from South
Africa completing my degree in emergency medical care are rescue at
the Durban University of Technology and I am currently conducting
research in ascending techniques, I am comparing a crawl and ascending
device to the use of a crawl and a Bachmann knot, do you guys know of
any websites that I can check out that has posted studies on topics
similar or same to my topic. Any assistance will be greatly
appreciated

I hear you, but what specifically are you comparing/measuring?
Ease of use / efficiency / idiot-proofness / etc?
In a nutshell, without any further information, mechanical ascent devices are better/more efficient than ye olde style knot device equivalent, but heavier and more costly!

Hi Ryshane,
For most, the primary utility of ascending/progress capture knots is that they can be fashioned out of cord or tape that one is probably already carrying. It can be hard work to ascend a great distance with them, so most who go out with the intent to ascend a rope use mechanical ascenders of some fashion.
The exception to the rule (that I am aware of) is the Treemagineers/DMM Hitch Climber system . Its not even close to a peer reviewed journal article though.
Best,
phillipivan.
