Not sure how you interpreted that from my initial question.

I currently have no gear for trad routes whatsoever, with the exception of 8 stoppers.
I'll be moving to Melbourne with no contacts in the climbing scene at all and even if I do establish solid climbing partners with full racks I feel that four to five years is too long to bum off someone else's gear.

I was asking the question so that I could build my first rack with gear well suited to the area I'll climbing in for most of its life, so advice like nmonteith's was perfect.

So I don't no where you've got the impression that I was a gear whore looking for pedantic beta on whether a DMM cam or BD cam is superior in individual Grampian placements.

Fair enough about searching through olds threads and other internet resources, I probably should had been more thorough with my initial web searches before posting this.

But at the same time has this thread really had that much of a negative impact on you? Someone got some advice concerning their sport climbing trip to Europe, people have had a laugh and someone's even managed to bring up the aidclimbing vs. real climbing debate.
