Heavily proofed leather does not breath at all, gtx does. Walking guides in New Zealand reccommend synthetic boots, gtx or no, for quick drying ability. My mate is a Geo in Papua(a little warmish) and reccommends synthetic gtx footwear too. Leather never drys and rots, and is very heavy when wet. For all the leather believers, at least you look the part and they will still be in good nick when the soles have worn out if you look after them.
