There is a saying.. a kg on the foot is worth five on the back. So the extra weight of carring your boots would have been canceled out.
I like gortex in my crag and walking shoes (merrell chameleon) as it really does keep out the rain and puddle water. It keeps your feet warmer in winter as well as the wind is kept out and warm air in. But the drainage on walks where your feet would get wet anyway sounds like it would be a good idea. |
