Cant really go wrong with 2nd hand C4's IMO.. plenty of them around and proven design. The earlier non thumb loop models you can find even cheaper(I like the thumb loop though) Just keep an eye out on eBay & forums for singles/sets in decent condition. Go for sizes 0.75 - 3 to start with. I like the Master Cams for smaller stuff - buy these from the US though as they are way overpriced locally, also plenty of these 2nd hand in good nick over there too.
