You're right, i did survive. And i probably would've even if it was all i had all night (i also probably got into my sleeping not too long after being uncomfortable). But it's 2 nights in the aussie backcountry, not a 7 day climb up some 8000m peak where every gram counts. So by this, why am i going to go to the bother of saving myself 100g and $50 to be miserable and uncomfortable for two nights when i can just be warm and toasty??

In the end, he's asking our thoughts. I think that if it's for climbing and belaying on multipitches and being "on the move" in the BC then sure, lightweight synthetic is great. But if it's for extended trips in the backcountry or NZ alpine trips, i'd probably splurge that extra bit and carry a little less something else to insure that i have a fun trip...
