I just bought a Mont Bell U.L. Thermawrap Parka. I'd spent a lot of time reading up on what would be the best synthetic and you basically come down to the filling of primaloft or exceloft. In the end I went with the mont bell and I can't recommend it highly enough. Over easter I got caught out in Kosiosko NP in a tshirt and the parka in a blizard after having been rained on and was thoroughly wet. I was still nice and warm and when I got back to camp the parka dried out overnight without a problem inside my tent!
In australia I don't think it get's cold enough to warrant a down layer, for mine I'll never look back after my experiences with synthetics! |
