The Answer to the problem... Glen Short has given me the answer... Dust the sticky surface with Baby or Talcum powder. Gets rid of the Sticky and the smell. Apparently it is a common problem with aging of the polyurethane waterproofing of tent flys. FYI, the Baby powder worked an absolute treat, and now my tent smells just like your grandmother, instead of a glue shop!
