From my experience when rope soloing if you are worried about the anchor off the ground, don't do the climb! ;-)

If you are 3 pitches up and come across a not so good omni-directional anchors then I do use a couple of Kong KISAs [http://www.kong.it/doc408.htm] as they are re-usable and work.

Also if you are free-climbing rope solo then get a proper device. I've used the soloist at first, and loved it and swore by it and even got a custom runner strength chest harness made for it. But now I use the silent partner that that is kick ass.

When rope soloing the major headache is rope management. So take some rubberbands with you to take weight out of the system and climb with the rope feeding out of a small backpack on ya back.
