after guiding for a fair while i have seen many clients wipe/spray packs with DEET style repellants onto their packs and then within 6-7 days see the synthetics delaminate or disintegrate. It doesn't seem to effect the canvas packs, but it does eat the synthetic stitching on canvas packs.

So i stopped putting it on my skin a fair while ago. Rid is about 11% DEET and Bushmans is about 30% DEET, so it must be pretty potent. OFF is a new style that seems ok.

I did hear that DEET is a derivative of a friendly older style repellant known as DDT!!

But long sleeves and broad brim hats does reduce access to your skin and fly's stay away a little. It also prtects from UV..... amazing...

I have found that blue packs/clothes attract march flies [after a 14 day walk in a blue shirt and then repeated results in non-control based and anecdotal experiments].
