I'd be very interested to know what 5mm mild steel U's would pull at after coming across quite a few of them at New York right-side (eg The Reprieve, Exploding Budgies). They were all very mis-shapen and droopy, the holes very close together and pretty brown and rusty - I'd love to have even a vague idea of how they'd perform. (I should imagine they'd fatigue terribly - like a cheese-wire)
It's great to get a handle on how some of the proper bolting jobs might hold up, but I think it would be equally interesting see how the less accepted approaches fare (which lets face it, we see our fair share of). |
