Some friends and I have just got into rock climbing and at the moment we're hitting the indoor climbing centres at Altona and Nunawading in Melbourne. We need to hire harnesses and shoes each time we go and are wondering where to get the best deals to purchase equipment for beginners?

Your best bet for cheap climbing gear is to get a job in a gear shop. This has worked well for many before you.

Always found the term "Stock take" amusing.

There is a 2nd hand sporting goods shop in Fyshwick at Canberra that had heaps of harnesses etc in a clearance bin about 3 months ago. The storeman reckons its topped up semi regularly ...
Appeared to be superceded old model type stock, in brand new condition, and very reasonably priced.
What you would spend getting there from Melbourne would be more than the difference between it and new gear locally?

If you're going into Cliffhanger, check out the BD harnesses. Some of them are being fazed out due to new models coming in. They're from as cheap as $99. Not sure how many there are though. Worth a look but.

Sounds a bit dodgy M8, we all know what Fyshwick is famous for, harnesses from there may well have been used for ........................I'm just going to stop there before I get myself in any more trouble.

Umm, come to think of it the shop name was something like jerkalot ...
Seriously though, they were just phased out models. Still had the original price-tags on them etc

Is that the Second Wind shop - sells everything from climbing gear to snowboards and kayaks? Haven't been there for a couple of years but they had some good prices when I went there.
