Good tip, M9, thanks. I'm planning on fitting rubber bumpers over the frame tubing on to keep the mat off the rock, but I'll double up the frame sleeve fabric on the wall side too.

Ledge should be (just) big enough for 2, unless of course, bl@ke you *want* to bash your toes with a hammer all night.
My dad's helping now. He's a proper engineer, so my biggest problem is keeping the weight under a tonne. When I first asked him for help, he politely declined saying he didn't want to be responsible if the thing collapses and I plunge to my doom. I explained about anchors and tying in, and sent him a picture of some guy who'd hauled a deckchair halfway up Salathe, none of which impressed him. So I gave him a few days and called back to ask about 4130 steel tube. That was enough. He didn't like the idea of me plunging to my doom from a crappy ledge that was crappy because he didn't help me build it. |
