Where did you buy it? You could always try and return it - most places are pretty good with those sorts of things. When a screwgate is loaded, the inner surface of the beener sees more load and this side is critical for the overall design. Thats why its possible for the manufacturer to remove material along the outside edge to save weight. Seeing that the defect is towards the outside edge I'd be tempted to say the beener is still good. But that is assuming that there is no further damage than what you can see on that outside surface.
